Secret Wiretap Applications Reveal Holder Lied to Congress on Fast and Furious

On May 3, 2011 Attorney General Eric Holder testified under oath before a Congressonal committee that he first heard of the gun-walking program Fast and Furious in the last few weeks.
“I’m not sure about the exact date but I probably heard about Fast and Furious for the first time over the last few weeks.”
In October of last year FOX News reported that AG Holder was identified in documents to be aware of Fast and Furious not once but twice in 2010. One document was post October 18, 2010 and the other was from July 2010. Then in January 2012 another document revealed that Eric Holder was notified of Fast and Furious the day Border Patrol agent Brian Terry was murdered in Arizona.

In May Rep. Darrell Issa (R_CA) delivered a letter to Eric Holder containing a startling amount of detail about the Fast and Furious operation. Cummings and Holder have maintained that the wiretap applications did not contain such detail. It looks like Holder was just caught in another lie.

In the midst of a fiery floor debate over contempt proceedings for Attorney General Eric Holder, House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) quietly dropped a bombshell.
The May 24 letter to Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), ranking member on the panel, quotes from and describes in detail a secret wiretap application that has become a point of debate in the GOP’s “Fast and Furious” gun-walking probe.
The wiretap applications are under court seal, and releasing such information to the public would ordinarily be illegal. But Issa appears to be protected by the Speech or Debate Clause in the Constitution, which offers immunity for Congressional speech, especially on a chamber’s floor.
According to the letter, the wiretap applications contained a startling amount of detail about the operation, which would have tipped off anyone who read them closely about what tactics were being used.
Holder and Cummings have both maintained that the wiretap applications did not contain such details and that the applications were reviewed narrowly for probable cause, not for whether any investigatory tactics contained followed Justice Department policy.

George Clooney has signed on for another special guest appearance as the Barack Obama re-election campaign takes its summer fundraising tour across the Atlantic in pursuit of Euro-cash.
The Obama campaign posted an invitation on its website Friday revealing that the presidential pal-in-chief will appear at a pair of Americans Abroad for Obama events Aug. 27 in Geneva, Switzerland. Clooney, who usually spends summers at his villa on Italy’s Lake Como, made a similar appearance across the Swiss border on behalf of then-candidate Obama during the run-up to the 2008 general election.
Charles Adams, co-president of the campaign’s European outreach effort, told the newspaper Tribune de Geneve that Clooney will address a crowd of about 150 at an evening reception, which will be followed by a more intimate — and expensive — dinner at which the star will be the guest of honor. Tickets for the latter event will go for $20,000 for singles and $30,000 for couples.
Meanwhile, the Continental branch of the Obama fundraising effort will kick off next week in Paris with an Independence Day reception at the Rosenbloom Collection on the chic Rue du Chevaleret. Organizers Forrest Alogna, Pamela Boulet, Zachary James Miller, Valerie Picard, Joe Smallhoover and Curtis Young will host an early-evening event whose ticket prices range from $250 to $1,500.
It may be difficult to find US donors in Europe. More than 1,780 U.S. citizens renounced their citizenship last year. This is up from 200-400 a year before Obama came into office.
Armed Islamists Destroy Ancient Timbuktu Shrines With Axes

Islamists from the Ansar Dine group have reportedly destroyed several of the ancient shrines in Timbuktu.
VOA reported:
Armed Malian Islamists are destroying shrines and mausoleums in Timbuktu.
Witnesses told VOA Saturday that members of the Ansar Dine Islamist group are attacking the historic sites with axes and other instruments.
Witnesses say the mausoleum of a revered Muslim saint, Sidi Mahmoud, has been destroyed. Timbuktu has been listed by UNESCO as an endangered world heritage site.
UNESCO says Timbuktu was once an intellectual and spiritual capital, as well as a center for the propagation of Islam throughout Africa in the 15th and 16th centuries.
UNESCO said on its website Thursday that it had decided to place Timbuktu on its endangered list because its sites were “threatened by the armed conflict in the region.”

Over the past several years, Claire McCaskill has been one of Obamacare’s most outspoken advocates. In 2008 she was the first “moderate” US Senator to throw her support behind Barack Obama. But since the Supreme Court’s decision Thursday, she has remained uncharacteristically silent.
Now, one Missouri media outlet is airing its frustration with her refusal to comment. In a lengthy segment, Columbia’s KOMU reported that McCaskill’s office did not return several calls for comment, noting her deep ties to Barack Obama and her longtime support of the bill.

Justice Department won’t prosecute Holder for contempt

After Congress found the nation’s top law enforcement officer in contempt Thursday, the Department of Justice quickly wrote a letter to House Speaker John Boehner informing him that it will not prosecute U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder for withholding documents in a congressional investigation of the Fast and Furious gun walking operation.
“The longstanding position of the Department of Justice has been and remains that we will not prosecute an Executive Branch official under the contempt of Congress statute for withholding subpoenaed documents pursuant to a presidential assertion of executive privilege,” James M. Cole, the deputy attorney general, wrote in a letter dated June 28 and addressed to the Speaker.
Does anybody think that the DoJ would have prosecuted even without the executive privilege assertion? “I would have had myself arrested, but now the president says I can’t. What are ya gonna do ya know…”
Issa is now gearing up for a civil case against Holder.
